TRAINING FOR SCENT WORK

Importance of SCENT WORK

Nosework is rapidly becoming one of the most popular new sports for dogs, and it's easy to see why! Handlers love it, dogs really love it, and it helps build confidence and focus in dogs, especially those with shyness, reactivity, or aggression issues. Any dog can participate, from puppies to seniors. Within weeks, you'll see your dog confidently ignoring distractions and focusing on the target scent, with many dogs ready to compete for their ORT or AKC novice by the end of the course.

This course stands out because we train dogs to search for scents using methods proven effective for top drug and bomb detection dogs. Our backchaining method works on almost all dogs, from insecure and unfocused to highly driven ones. The course prepares you and your dog to compete for their ORT, NACSW NW titles, and AKC scent work titles.

In this class, you'll learn the basics of odor searching, proper equipment use, handling odors, making and placing hides, and teaching your dog odor obedience. We focus on making the search and odor highly important to your dog.

All materials are included in the Intro Class.

It has been scientifically proven that engaging in SCENT WORK provides Dogs with the following Benefits:

  • Reduces anxiety and stress

  • Builds Confidence and Independence

  • Makes Dogs better behaved

  • 15 Minutes of Scent Work is more enriching and exhausting than a 1 Hour Walk

AND reconnects your Dog with its nose beyond just smelling and marking.

Scent Work especially benefits Shy and Reactive Dogs — whose Big Feelings of Anxiety and Fear are often the result of a traumatic event, effectively suffering from PTSD.  Scent Work engages Dogs’ dominant sense, their nose, which drives and engages a lot of their Brain.  Developing Scent Work skills makes Dogs more present, in the moment.

With Scent Work, Dogs become Investigative Reporters, and parts of their Brain that were previously ruminating on potential in-coming scuds (like a triggering breed) are now productively engaged.  Scent Work supports Dogs managing their Big Feelings, and over time takes up more and more of the brain that engages in learned dysregulated behaviors — (an inability to control or regulate one's emotional responses)

Come reap the benefits of SCENT WORK at SNIFF N SEEK, and watch your Dog transform!
