INTRO CLASS 2/2: TUBES & INDICATION

PRE-REQUISITE: INTRO CLASS 1/2 4 ELEMENTS: TRANSITION TO THE TUBE, INSTINCT TRIAL, INDICATION & ‘Getting the Game’ TRANSITION TO THE TUBE: We briefly re-introduce the Rat in a cage, before transitioning it to a Tube, so Doggo makes the connection that even if s/he can’t see Peaches & Trixie, they know that one of them is in the Tube. This is WHEN shy dogs and those that are PLAY motivated to learn that they Rat cannot get them, that there is nothing to fear, and the game is to find the Tube, not necessarily ‘hunt’ the Rat. When either Peaches or Trixie is in the Tube, we ‘Jack-Pot’ praise your Dog for finding the Tube, including placing hot dogs on the Tube, so your dog gets that it’s JOB is to FIND THE TUBE. This is when Handlers learn that their PREY MOTIVATED and Reactive Dogs see how safe and protected Peaches & Trixie are. INSTINCT TRIAL: we then place 3 tubes on an ‘Instinct Cradle’ – 1 Empty, 1 with fresh dirty litter, and 1 with Dirty Tube. Each dog approaches the Cradle (who named it an Instinct Cradle???) and identifies which Tube contains Peaches or Trixie. JACK POT praise. INDICATION: We closely observe how your Dog indicates the Live Tube. This is critical as you reach higher Levels with more Tubes and more Decoy Tubes. Q: HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOUR DOG HAS FOUND THE DIRTY LITTER TUBE vs. THE LIVE TUBE? A Jack Russell’s mom said, while Chance was biting, barking and chewing on the Tube: NOPE – I only trust his tail. Getting the Game: We then do a hide of all three Tubes in the Ring, and ask your Doggo to ‘Find It!’. Your Dog will then get that his or her JOB is to find the LIVE TUBE, and only the LIVE TUBE.
